Ok kids, every Tuesday I’m going to sample a different craft beer of my choosing. Keep in mind I’m no professional beer connoisseur, I’m just a gal that enjoys a good brew. So with that said, don’t expect any fancy beer jargon on here.
This past weekend, 101.3 The Brew hosted The Great Brew Ha-Ha right here in Grand Rapids. This is an annual event that showcases over 100 craft beers and various comedic acts. My roommate, Sam, is the Promotions Director for the radio station and generously brought home a leftover growler. Talk about perks by association. So with that said, the first brew of Tasting Tuesday is…drum roll…Kingdom of Tonga Vanilla Porter by Perrin Brewing Company.
The Kingdom of Tonga Vanilla Porter is made with vanilla beans from…you guessed it: The Kingdom of Tonga. Tonga has over 170 islands and is located in the South Pacific. As with many porters, the Tonga had notes of chocolate and coffee with a subtle caramel touch – right up my alley. My only complaint was that it was a bit flat but that’s likely because the growler was poured Friday. In any case, that didn’t stop me from enjoying a glass or three (hey, it’s 5 o’clock somewhere right?).
My Tasting Tuesday rating: ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆
What’s your opinion on the Kingdom of Tonga Vanilla Porter?
