I bought the above beer based solely on the appearance of the can and I’m not ashamed to admit it. In fact, as an extremely indecisive person I make a lot of hard decisions based on appearance. Case and point: my March Madness bracket. Picking based on their mascots makes the process a whole lot more fun. So back to the beer can. I along with everyone around me knows I have a somewhat obsessive fondness of owls. I have actually begun to cut myself off because my room is starting to look like a creepy shrine. I almost wanted to keep the can to showcase but the line needed to be drawn somewhere.
The Northern Hawk Owl by Right Brain Brewery located in Traverse City, MI was a pleasant surprise. Not surprising because Right Brain has bad beer but surprising because I had no idea what to expect. The Northern Hawk Owl is an Amber Ale ringing in at 5.8% ABV. It’s redish copper in color with a faint carmel scent. I really enjoyed the taste of this beer – slightly sweet and toasty with a clean finish.
My Tasting Tuesday Rating: ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆
PS: that candle smells like heaven – do yourself a favor and pick one up.
